If Only I Could Stop Time

Look who's standing...

I'm so not ready for this...

Sigh....

I just lowered the crib mattress

And now...

I guess I have to do it again...

But then its as low as it goes...

The next step after that...

A big bed...

I'm not ready for this...

Sigh...

The Train Jacket

Have I mentioned that Kicker has a problem letting go...

He has a little jacket that he has worn now for 3 years and he will NOT consider wearing anything else.

The train jacket...
If I'm not mistaken it's a 24 month or a 2T.

Not sure what the difference is...

It belonged to my nephew, who is about to turn 13...

then it went to QB, who is almost 9...

and then to Kicker, who's 4 1/2 now and looks so cute in that too small jacket.

See this right here is why I blog. Not because I think I have anything important or unique to say... No. I want to remember. You may not even be able to tell from the picture that the jacket is too small,

Seriously...if you can't, you may need glasses.

But I will look at this and remember that sweet little train jacket that Kicker refused to grow out of. And these are the things I don't want to forget.

Sooo Close

Well I almost made it to church this week.

Two weeks ago I missed because QB was sick.

Last week I missed because Kicker was sick.

This week we were ready to go. Clothes ironed...kids bathed...all 50 fingernails clipped....

But it wasn't meant to be.

This week it's Center's turn. She woke me up around 4 this morning sporting a good little fever.

The bad thing is we were at a friends house last night for dinner...they have 3 kids too. OOPS!!! I hate it when that happens.

Anyways....

Onward and upward we go... and we will try again next week. Thankfully she's not throwing up and hopefully whatever it is will be short lived and she'll be good as new soon.

A Word of Encouragement

As parents we repeat ourselves 1000 times a day. And often get no indication that it's sinking in.
Here on Team Babetz we have many rules or helpful tools to keep the team on the right track. One of those is:

When in a store, if you are tempted to touch something...just put your hands in your pockets.

Sometimes this works and other times... not so much.

My mom called me this afternoon to tell me a little story:

She had the girls out shopping the other day and while in a dept. store, passing through the fine china, she noticed Receiver put her hands in her pockets.

So she told her she knew that was one of our rules and thanked her for obeying and told her she was a good girl..... You know how Grammy's do...

Then Reveiver says..."I just want to honor my mom and dad."

Now please understand, while it warms my heart to hear her say she wants to honor us... I don't say this to praise our parenting or even her obedience...

but only to Thank God and offer praise to Him...it is the work of the Holy Spirit in Receiver's heart that brought the rule to her mind and the desire in her heart to obey.

What an encouragement it is to me to know that He is working through us and she is listening.

Thank you Lord for the word of encouragement...

Thank You

Thank You

Thank You

Center Gets Glasses

Well it was only a matter of time... I got my first pair of glasses in 2ND grade...honestly, I am surprised that it's taken this long. Although, HC has good eye site so maybe some of them will get his good eye gene.

Center didn't:

She's so cute. And truth be told I love a kid in glasses. Now teaching her to take care of them is not going to be so cute...

The whole thing started when I got a note from the nurse at school telling me that Center had failed the eye test they get every year.

She had been telling me for a couple of weeks that "the letters go blurry", but I didn't pay much attention...

yeah, I'm such a good mom.

But in my defence...the girls pop all the lenses out of their sunglasses they want glasses so bad.

Anyway, we went to the eye Dr. and got her check out and...huh those letters really were blurry.

While we were waiting in the exam room she was all over the place...in the chair...out of the chair...looking at everything...talking about all things everywhere...

This is Center all the time. She struggles with, what Team Babetz calls, "self control". I mean really struggles.

My mother-in-law calls it crazy.

I call it exhausting.

At any rate when the Dr. came into the room she started talking to him about...everything...she just went on and on and on. He looked at me and asked if that was normal and I said unfortunately yes. He said that it was a direct result of her eyes not being able to focus. He has had many kids come through who's parents have just assumed their kids were ADD or ADHD and they just needed glasses. CRAZY. It has something to do with the lack of focus that causes them to move rapidly from one thing to another.

He told me that it should get better ... I reserve the right to judge that for myself.

He also said that it should help with her reading. By this time in K5 both QB and Receiver were reading well, but she just can not seem to really get it. So I am interested to see if there are any changes...

I should say I am hopefully that there will be changes...

But all the waiting... and then the waiting... and oh did I mention we had to wait...

Here are several pics of what we were up to during the wait...

Updates...

Mascot:
I have the most busy bodied children....

This is Mascot trying to see all that is going on around her...

While I am trying to feed her....

Blueberries...

I think we'll stick to applesauce from now on.
Cookie:
Well I would like to take a moment of silence for Cookie...

Cookie is no longer with us. Apparently she/he didn't survive the weekend after us. Truth be told the fact that Cookie didn't eat anything the entire time she/he was here may have been an indicator that the time was drawing near. The kids all OK and talking about getting a new class pet. And with a final sigh....of relief I say again...I'm glad we were not the family who killed the class pet.

Center:
Center has to get glasses....I'll post more on that later.

Kicker:
I knew if I said it out loud I would regret it...

Yes, he got the stomach flu too. We spent last night up together...and this time I cleaned everything up b/c HC is also sick. Besides it wasn't nearly as bad as QB's top bunk episode. He's resting now and soon will be on the mend.

If we keep this up...one child sick every week...I should be back at church sometime in late March.
Sigh.

Indecisive

I know, I know I keep changing the title. Well I would go on to explain, but it all boils down to:

I wasn't happy with it before and...

I am indecisive.

Bad combination! But Team Babetz it is and will forever be. We (HC and I) call our family 'Team Babetz' as more of a reminder to the kids that we are all on the same side. And in order for things to work smoothly, we need to work together as a team. So there you have it...no more changes.

I think.

Just kidding.

Mom, I Threw Up

These are the words no mom want to hear at 2:30 in the morning. It's bad enough when they come from a dark figure looming over you while you're in bed. Somehow they're worse when you hear them from a distance. Like the top bunk of your child's bedroom.

Yep. That's what happened to me this weekend.

I have to say though, the last time we had a stomach bug was 2 1/2 years ago. We just don't get it that often...(of coarse now we will because I said it out loud). And the last time it went through the house, QB didn't get it. In fact, truth be told...this is the first time he's gotten a stomach virus. He threw up once before when he ate too many hot dogs...he was three. So in all fairness to him, he didn't know what was going on.

And when I tell you it was everywhere...it's an understatement. The wall, Lego's...oh yeah. See, Friday nights are a free night... I don't make the kids pick up their rooms before they go to bed.

I'm re-thinking that one.

And while we're on the subject of 'clean up' HC did it all. This is one area where I am a huge wimp. So let me publicly announce... I married the best guy in the world.

We just threw the lamp shade and the rug away...it was time to update anyway.

But he was a real trooper. And after a day of rest and watching all the videos he wanted....yeah, I'm that kind of mom.

He's all better and didn't even miss a day of school. What a good boy.

Cookie

Meet Cookie

Cookie the Salamander is QB's class pet and we got to keep him at our house last weekend. We (QB and I) had to go to the pet store and buy live crickets to feed Cookie. Which we did....every day. They have to be live when you give them to Cookie and if he/she (we're not sure) doesn't eat it you have to get rid of it and give him a new live cricket.

Just so you know Cookie didn't eat the entire time he was with us.

We also had to change the water in Cookies house. When he/she came to us he/she had a dead fly and a dead lady bug floating around in the water. Incidentally, Kicker was more afraid of the dead fly than of the living salamander. At any rate, HC was nominated to help clean the tank since it involved removing Cookie and putting him/her into a jar then putting him/her back when the task was completed.

Yes.....that is HC scooping Cookie up OFF MY TABLE. That protective table cloth thing was old anyway....yes it went in the trash. Cookie nearly escaped during the transfer but he made it to the jar and back but not without some squirming.

Cookie made it back to school Monday morning and all was well. But I have to say that it is a lot of stress trying NOT to be the family that killed the class pet.
