Easter Music

It's Easter time and as with all religious holidays, that have found their way into the commercial market, I try to find ways to make the 'true meaning' more real to my kids. That means we are taking this week and next to look at this book:

Passion Hymns for a Kid's Heart

I love this book because it teaches my kids hymns and we love music at our house, but as a general rule hymns are not as widely sung and I want my kids to know them. Also, it's focus is specifically on the Easter weeks events. From Palm Sunday with "All Glory, Laud and Honor" to Jesus ascending to Heaven with "Crown Him with Many Crowns". Each song on the CD (that comes with the book) has a story and scripture that goes with it. We read one a day till Easter and listen to the corresponding hymn, but we will listen to the whole CD as much as possible. In the car... when we are cleaning around the house... any time we are at liberty to sing out loud. It has been a really fun way to focus on Christ and His sacrifice.

This is such a good idea. I am a bit sad that rarely do we hear hymns any more. There is such a richness and history (not to mention praise to God) to a good hymn. Thanks for the idea!

Wow, Steph, I could totally have written this post myself, except that we've been working our way through this book and another Lent devotional since Lent began. Anna Kate has the songs on her mp3player too, and they all really love them.
