Classroom Champion
A few weeks ago Sam won an award.
Classroom Champion
We went to a Furman football game and he went out on the field. I think, for him, the bigger prize was that Gregg was off on a Sat. and able to be there with him. For me it was the fact that only one kid was chosen from each school in the county... but it was the teachers who did the choosing.
It was a beautiful day and I'm very proud of and thankful for Sam.

The Lottery
We're playing the lottery. Not the money kind, but the 'school choice' kind. We find out tonight if Sam will be going to the Charter school we applied for. 'Applied' really gives people the wrong idea. Applying would imply that we had something to do with the selection process. But other than filling out the application, we can't do anything. The students are chosen via lottery. They send all the names off into cyberspace (insert me waving my arms over my head all crazy like) and the computer randomly chooses the names of the children that will be attending. So crazy!
So I've been praying for the last month... and trying to find the balance between 'boldly' asking God to allow Sam to be chosen and preparing for the fact that this might not be what God deems best for Sam. I have a hard time with that. Balance that is. Always have. I find it incredibly hard to pray for something I really want or think would be great for my family and not getting my hopes up so that when/if God chooses otherwise I'm not crushed. Does that even make sense?
But, on the other hand, it is so reassuring to know there is nothing I/we can do to get in... other than the application. The choice is so clearly going to be the Lords and that is very calming.
So I'll let you know where we end up. Where ever that is will be up to God.

Coloring Monday
It's Monday afternoon and that means you'll find me on my sofa with a cup of coffee, colored pens and all the kids backpacks.
The amount of paperwork that comes home... even after "going green" is ridiculous RIDICULOUS.
Most of it goes right into our recycling bin after I've read it but I usually have something to fill out or a check to write... don't let anyone tell you that public school is free. Just sayin.
I have always color coded my kids. From the time they were in the womb they were assigned a color and that color is theirs for life.
Green Pink Purple Blue Yellow
This comes in particularly handy on Mondays. I won this fun little calendar/planner paper from scribbles-n-such.com and, at the time, I wasn't sure what to do with it. But now I'm so glad I won it. Every week I get out my pens and I put all things "school" on this planner. Everything from my time working at the school to important projects/papers and test... all in the appropriate color of coarse. It's been a huge help. At the beginning of the school year I was loosing track of who needed to do what on which day... it was crazy. But now I just keep the clip board handy and we just look to see what's coming the next day.
It takes some time on Monday's to get everything out, sorted, filed, and on the planner, but it's worth it. And I've gotten to where I look forward to Monday afternoons now so it's not so bad.
Oh and if you haven't color coded your kids yet... I highly recommend it. Makes things a lot easier.
